Fall’s Here!

Six whimsical watercolor paintings by Elle James: a grumpy blue cat, two fluffy birds, a castle tower, an autumn cottage, and three colorful row houses

I don’t know about you, but I’m so glad it’s finally fall!

We had weeks of record-high, triple-digit temperatures and no rain. For NW Arkansas, that’s not the norm. We lost ten trees (small ones we’d planted in the spring). The mosquitoes didn’t suffer. They were out in full force.

I spent a lot of time in the pool, after the shade covered it completely. I loved standing in the pool and painting on the edge.

Here are some of my masterpieces. Okay, I’m still learning how to use watercolors. But it was fun and relaxing.

Happy Fall, y’all!

Painting for Myla Jackson’s Ugly Stick Saloon Reboot

Watercolor painting by Elle James of a cowboy and cowgirl embracing, for Myla Jackson's Ugly Stick Saloon cover reboot

If you’ve followed me on Facebook, you’ll have seen some of the watercolors I’ve done this year as I’ve learned a little about that art medium. I’m still very new at it, and nowhere near the artist my mother was. I miss her so much.

I’ve started working on illustrated covers for my other, sexier pen name, Myla Jackson, with the Ugly Stick Saloon series. I plan to change the covers, expand the stories, and re-release them next year, three at a time. They’re fun stories based in Texas and a little sexier than my Elle James books. More contemporary romance than romantic suspense.

To get those illustrated covers, I’m trying my hand at painting the people who will appear on them.

Wish me luck!
